Ottawa: G.E. Desbarats 1869, 2nd edition. (Paper covers) 202pp. Good to very good. Includes folding map. The top and bottom of the spine are tape-stained and the top of the back cover has a corner crease (partially torn) with tape stains on the inside, a previous owner's name and stamp inside. This second edition replaces the first edition which was destroyed at the printer's. Written in 1868 with the intention to influence public opinion on the acquisition of Rupert's Land. The third volume, edited by Clyde Tuck consists of biographical sketches of representative citizens and genealogical records of the old families, including a biographical index, photographs, and portraits. The hinges are cracked with some minor attendant chipping, there is a small previous owner's stamp on the front endpapers of the first 2 volumes. Internally the set is in fine condition. Description:
Second UK edition of Parry's 1819-20 Northwest passage expedition. Issued 1821 from same plates as first edition except for typographical corrections (see Arctic Bibliography #13145). Condition is good or better. 19th century full leather binding, marbled endpapers. The primary condition issue is that the front hinge is starting. Front corners of boards are rubbed; stain on back board. The interior is excellent, the only markings are pencil notes on the list of plates, complete with all plates, some foxing on early pages. Pagination: [8], xxix, half title, 310, half title appendix, clxxix, blanks. All 20 plates and maps present and accounted for. Hill 1311. This is Parry's first book but not his first voyage to the arctic which was 1818. Wonderful plates and maps. Please feel free to inquire. See images of the book you will receive.
