Description:
New York: Association for Stamp Exhibitions, 1926. First Edition. Quarto. 287pp. The letter details everything that went into the preparation of the catalog which the recipient of the letter had assisted although he had been unable to attend. Klemann details the surprising sales of the White Plains stamp, and a Mr. Eidsness, the Superintendent of the Stamp Division noted sales in excess of $40,000. An unnamed stamp of Mr. Hinds was exhibited for $32,500. The catalog issued in an edition of 5000 was sold out by Thursday afternoon. The auction was one of the most celebrated in philatelic history consequently revealing insight into the task of organization with headaches, triumphs, etc. A copy of the catalog accompanies this letter. Bound in original pictorial paper wraps, front wrapper detached but present and now in clear mylar wrapper, small damp stain near the foot, no ownerships or marks of any kind.

London. William Boyer. 1767. Bound in full, silver gilt tiled modern faux morocco. Siver gilt titles and date to spine. Thick 4to. 8.5" x 11". The First Edition. Illustrated by examples of coinage en texte, tables, etc. This learned and ingenious work is said to have made its appearance from the press in consequence of a discovery made by Martin Folkes, Esq. of the old Saxon pound ; and it now forms the chief foundation of Mr. Clarke's literary character. It was extolled by the scholars of his day as replete with curious and profound learning, and not less remarkable for the clearness and sagacity of its reasoning, than for the taste and discernment displayed in its specimens and illus- trations. The publication was followed by letters of congratulation from some of the most distin- guished persons in the kingdom ; and notwithstand- ing the progress of antiquarian knowledge since his time, it still continues to be a… Read More

Loubat's "The Medallic History of the United States." New. Special edition. A Leaf book limited to 60 copies letterpress printed by Bird & Bull Press. A magnificent production. Citing from the preface: "The regular edition of Comitia Americana and Related Medals has been shaped for the scholar and the collector... The special edition at hand is intended to serve a different purpose. Here, the authors' objective is to place the reader in a closer relationship with the historical events that are described. To this end, the text of this edition has been prepared by the same letterpress technology in use in the late eighteenth century. The two centuries that lie between the American Revolution and the present day are neatly bridged by the inclusion of a leaf from a book published in 1878. Joseph Florimond Loubat's… Read More

1870 Complete Numismatics Ancient & Modern COINS Medals Rome Barthelemy French
Jean Baptiste de Barthelemy's "Manual of Complete Numismatics" is a 19th-century guide on collecting and identifying ancient and modern coins. This work provided descriptions of found coins and their importance; however, it was the atlas tomes that proved to be the most valuable to collectors.
