Engravings and illustrations from photos throughout. Ownership ink stamp of Edmund Prechtel to front pastedown and title, ownership signature of the same to the front blank. Cloth a little rubbed and spotted with some scattered loss of size, small tear at the base of the spine panel, contents faintly toned. Excellent condition. "Steam, Its Production and Use, together with a Catalogue of Manufactures". A very attractive 1893 German language catalogue of the pioneering power firm Babcock & Wilcox, the first edition of which was published in 1875. 1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and is reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle (which I also have listed). 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages, complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great (which sometimes is the best you can do). Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction, acute toxicity, chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Feel free to inquire. Pamphlet circa 1809. The wreck of the HMS Centaur in September, 1782 is a famous event with many accounts. The Centaur left Jamaica for England and sank in a hurricane. The survivors drifted for 16 days before arriving in the Azores. Twelve survived while 400 were lost. Pamphlets of this type were sometimes sold separately and sometimes bound in volumes. This item appears disbound from a larger volume but may still be regarded as complete. There is a note at bottom of page 2 "3d Ed. 17,000" making this a later printing. WorldCat locates 1 copy but it is from a different publisher. See OCLC: 751357712. Condition is Good: disbound from larger volume. Closed tear affecting pages 1-2 (see image). Paginates: (1)-12. Map supported with posterboard and protected with plastic sleeve. 1855 Single Sheet. 18 1/2 x 24 inches. Being territory about 25 miles northeast of Watertown, N.Y. and 65 miles north of Utica, lying in the townships of Antwerp, Philadelphia, leRay, Wilna and Diana, an area which includes present-day Fort Drum and remains one of the most sparsely populated in the state. The land has been divided here into approximately 900 numbered lots of 440 acres each. The routes of the Odgensburg and the St. Lawrence turnpikes are given, as is the "Military Road" from Sacketts Harbor to Ogdensburg passing through Alexandria to the west. Like the movie, which overlays images and the sound of New York City with Chantal Akerman's voice, so too does this small publication, overlay images and text through transparent and colored pages.

Paris: Unite Trois, 1977. 8vo (30x21cm), staple-bound wrappers. Unpaginated 11pp [3 printed colour sheets, 9 printed transparent sheets]. Text in French. Slight creasing to wrappers with tiny loss on tail corner. Very good.

Chicago, 1922. Hardcover. Very good. Hardcover double-ring binder, 10 x 8 inches. 26 pages of illustrations, often with multiple drawings on a page, plus 3 charts. Several pages of experiments and notes on food and diet interspersed. Complete, according to the handwritten index, and ca. 1922 based on the Typhoid "death by disease" chart, which ends in 1921. Bottom corner of the front board is worn off and many of the pages are torn at the hole punch and have sustained some edgewear from the haphazard placement, but the pages clean with no interruption to the drawings. Each drawing is stamped by the instructor, J. L. Neil. An incredible group of folk styled biological and anatomical drawings done in ink and colored pencil by Chicago high school student Dorothy Lipsich.
