The author, a French general and historian, works include: Histoire de Napoleon et de la Grande Armee pendant l'anee 1812, 1824; Histoire de Russie et de Pierre le Grand, 1829. Provenance note: Heraldic book plate inside front cover, "AFC" initials beneath crown. Front hinges of both volumes cracked with covers firmly attached. Spine leather with delicate network of fine cracks. France; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1230 pages .

Les deux premières sont des attaques virulentes contre Sauvageot, par Baillot-Mure, vinaigrier. La dernière est par Pierre Baillot, professeur de rhétorique, qui demande, après la Terreur, "une forte épuration de tous les fonctionnaires publics"..

Alexandrine des Echerolles (La Ferte Hauterive, south of Moulins-Allier) was 13 y.o. when the Revolution forced her father, aunt and brothers to take refuge in Lyon. Her father had been elected colonel of the National Guards at Moulins, but when he was threatened with imprisonment he fled to Lyon then Switzerland, and left his daughter in the care of his sister. The aunt was murdered by the revolutionary court for refusing to reveal where her brother was living, and Alexandrine found herself alone, and relied on family and relations to taker her in.

Hullmandel was a prolific publisher and instrumental in many major improvements to lithography in the 1820s and 1830s. Lithographer George Scharf (1788-1860) was a Bavarian-born artist and one of the best lithographers operating in London at the time.
