This is a scare publication to begin with, but what makes it unique and important historically is that its previous owner, gun collector Gary Smith of Thornville, Ohio, conducted his own research and has heavily annotated the booklet, providing additional details and corrections to the text. Among the things he notes are who owned the rifles depicted, what their value was at the time, where various gunsmiths are buried, inscriptions on their tombstones, etc. One of the most interesting parts of the booklet is the local story of how Samuel Colt stole the design for the revolver from the Humbergers. 40 p.: illus., 23 cm. Dustjacket, light edge nicks to spine-ends and corners, spine slightly darkened, in new Brodart sleeve, the best example of this dustjacket I've ever seen. The British-born soldier, administrative officer, and professional hunter's first book about his adventures in northern Africa beginning in 1941 when he was just 22 years old. This is a great fun reading book of classic hunting stories. The book's dust jacket has lightly worn areas along its top and bottom edges, has inside stains along with some light staining on its exterior bottom spine edge and in varying places on the the front scover, and lastly, on the front side a crease and a very slight line cut. The interior book is in Near Fine to Fine condition with the only detriment being a small spot on the exterior book's front cover probably made by a dirty fingerprint. Outside of that and the author's inscription and signature though, there are no other visible extraneous markings, detriments, or distractions, and thus all of the book's printing is in a very well-preserved and enjoyable condition and the book's sewn-in bindings remain tight and therefore are sound.
