Top edge of text block coated grey. The dust jacket has very light edge wear, and a very small loss at the spine's foot. The text signatures remain largely unopened. A handsome copy in scarce, surprisingly intact and fresh dust jacket. This title marks the first appearance of Winnie The Pooh, in the poem on page 85, The Teddy Bear (albeit unnamed).

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1910 A very good copy of the limited edition of Sleeping Beauty signed by Edmund Dulac. No 598 of 1,000. In the original full morocco leather binding with gilt decoration to boards and spine, with tipped-in frontispiece and 29 further colour plates. Top page edges gilted. The binding has been rebacked, preserving the original spine which has some loss at the top. It is sound and tight with newer endpapers and initial and final blanks. There is slight colour variation to the front board and some scuffing to the middle of the back board. Edges and corners are lightly rubbed. There is a loose flyer for the exhibition of Dulac's art work for the book, which ran from November 19th to Christmas of 1910. Second edition, the first having been published in 1810 at a length of just 92 pages. This second edition, according to the catalog of the publisher, Nepveu, was produced at only 445 copies without or with engravings on the cover. Lausanne: Mermod , 1927. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine. Bischoff, Henry. Although published in 1926 in a French magazine, this is the first French-language edition in book form. Translated by M. Sachs and with a preface by Jean Cocteau. Illustrated with woodcuts by Henry Bischoff including 6 plates coloured by hand. The edition was limited to only 262 copies, of which 30 were hors commerce, 20 of these being printed on Auvergne a la cuve and numbered in Roman numerals from xii to xxxi. This is one such example. Full leather gilt with raised bands at the spine and decorated, colour-dyed covers, t.e.g and elaborate decorations to the pastedowns, untrimmed. An extraordinary contemporary binding in decorative slipcase with leather trim at the fore-edges. The original green wrappers are bound-in and thus perfectly preserved. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Arthur Rackham with 12 full page coloured plates, all with captioned tissue guards. Numerous in text black and white line drawings.



The book is fine with very miniscule spotting to few pages . The pictorial parts of the original binding of the front board were worked into the leather of the book cover as an inlay. The edges have been recut and the picturesque endpapers were copied to new ones. The rests of the original endpapers were bound in.

Book is in a good to very good condition regarding its age with no dustjacket as published. The boards and the spine are rubbed, bumped and show signs of use and shelf wear (see photos). Dedication to former owner on front free endpaper. Book has a crack to the rear inside hinge but the connections between text block and boards are still intact. Slightly spotting and miniscule closed tears to some of the pages. Dusting to the edges of the text block.

This is a wonderful copy of the first trade edition of 'Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens' which was the first featuring of Peter Pan in the book title. It has the original russet cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board, along with a decorative gilt illustration of Peter Pan riding a goat on the front board and a map of Kensington Gardens on the front free endpaper.

Critics were overwhelmed by the symbiosis of the writer J. M. Barrie with the at this time relatively unknown illustrator Arthur Rackham.
