Le dessin principal montre un oiseau tenant le rôle d'accusé dans une salle d'audience, une autre planche est divisée en quatre cases dont seule la première contient un dessin, la troisième planche contient un croquis très sommaire, légendé. 1873. Near Fine. 5 handwritten letters to William Ward, 1873-1879, regarding the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad, which existed from 1872 to 1885; it was succeeded by the Philadelphia Midland Railroad. William Ward was one of the organizers of the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad and in 1874 was the president and treasurer pro tem. Letters #1 and #2 (Sept. 5 and Dec. 5, 1873) are from Jos. H. McKeehan, an attorney in Philadelphia, who is writing about deliquent subscribers to the railroad. Letter #3 (Dec. 18, 1873) is from the Village Record, a newspaper in West Chester, Pa., with a copy of the advertisement that ran in the paper listing the dates that instalments from railroad subscribers were due in 1872. Letter #4 (Nov. 26, 1875) is from John Smith of Ridley Park, about a plan to petition to vacate a street and public ground adjoining Mr. Bartol's purchase. 1905. Good +. Signed 3-page typescript of a agreement of sale between the American Baptist Publication Society and John Wanamaker. The American Baptist Publication Society sold to John Wanamaker the Crozier Building at 1420 and 1422 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, for $900,000. The Crozier Building was designed by Frank Miles Day & Brother and was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 1980. American merchant John Wanamaker (1838-1922) had made $1.5 million in profits and interest from his stores in Philadelphia and New York in 1904, suggesting that his acquisition of the Crozier Building was an investment. The Crozier Building has continued to function as a successful office building to this day. In Good+ Condition: chipping at edges; loss of lower corner of first page, with minor loss of text; separating along some of the 2 horizontal creases in each page; signatures are clean and intact.

1810. Near Fine. 1 handwritten letter of 1 folio leaf, signed by Sir William Cathcart at Salton Hall, 2 April 1810, to the Quarter Master General of the Horse Guards. Contains a list of six local militia with the agreed on dates for assembling for annual training and excercise. Cathcart was a Scottish soldier and diplomat (1755-1843); he was promoted to general in 1812 and went to Russia as ambassador. In Near Fine Condition: light creasing and minor loss at lower edge; closed 1-cm. tear from lower edge; otherwise, clean and crisp.

1811. Near Fine -. 1 handwritten vellum deed (45 x 83 cm.) dated 2 April 1811. Rudolph Stauffer and his wife, Beata Reiner Stauffer, sell to John Price, storekeeper, 103 acres in Coventry Township, Chester Co., Pa., for 1,800 pounds "lawful money of Pennsylvania." Recorded 3 Feb. 1812 by recorder Charles Kenny. Signed by witnesses George Prise and David Kinehart, justice of the peace for Chester County John Hiester, Jr., recorder Charles Kenny, and Rudolph Stauffer and Beata Stauffer (Rudolph's name is in German script, while Beata's is not). In Near Fine- Condition: light soiling and discoloration; otherwise, clean and bright. An attractive early 19th-century vellum deed.

1902. Good +. 1 mat (41 x 51 cm.) holding (1) the poem "Envoy: The Shepherd to his Flock" in manuscript and signed "Robert Bridges "Droch"; and (2) a reproduction of a photograph of Bridges, both undated. This is Robert Bridges (1858-1941) the American critic, editor, and poet, not the English poet of the same name. The reviews the American Bridges wrote for Life magazine were signed "Droch." The mat is light grey with a cut-out 22 x 17.5 cm. for the poem and another 19 x 12 cm. for the illustration. With a clear plexiglass cover. The poem Envoy: The Shepherd to his Flock was first published in Bramble Brae in 1902. In Good+ Condition: the manuscript is lightly soiled, with small scrapes near upper edge; plexiglass cover is rubbed.

1689. Very Good. Handwritten parchment deed. On 13 March 1689 Thomas Mercer, the elder, of Hawkhurst, Kent Co., tanner, gave to his oldest son, Thomas Mercer, the younger, the estate called Waters with its house, barns, orchards, gardens, etc., in Hawkhurst, Kent Co., England, containing 40 acres; the estate called Hayesgate of 30 acres; and another of 10 acres. Signed by Thomas Mercer, senior, and the witnesses -- Sarah Mercer, Ele? Sharpe, and John Ffoord. Dated old style 1688. In Very Good Condition: old staining; solid.

1676. Good. 1 handwritten parchment document (34 x 66 cm.), folded. Articles of agreement dated 16 Oct. 1676 involving 1) John Palmer, one of the aldermen of the borough of Stamford, and his son John Palmer; 2) Anna Pawley, daughter of Robert Pawley, late of South Croyston or Croxton, and Joyce Pawley widow of Robert Francis Needham of Leicester County, gentleman; and 3) Samuel Needham of Trinity College, Cambridge. Regards the disposition of property in Stamford, Leicester County, England, relating to the impending marriage between John Palmer, the younger, and Anna Pawley. Signed by John Palmer, the elder, John Palmer, Jr., and Anna Pawley, and by witnesses John Hall, Luke Blythe, William Hallewell, and Thomas Smaron. In Good Condition: dampstaining and soiling; just starting to separate at fold intersections; otherwise, solid.

1694. Very Good +. 1 handwritten parchment deed (43 x 60 cm.), folded. Elaborate initial letter. Dated 27 March 1694, the document involves Richard Reynolds, the younger, a carpenter of Hawkhurst, Kent Co., England, and William Couchman, clothier, of Cranbrook, Kent Co., and properties in Hawkhurst. Signed by Couchman with a seal, and by witnesses Thomas Morten, John Sharpe, Josiah Colvill, and Samuel Dunant. In Very Good+ Condition: light soiling, primarily on outer sections.
