1667 Brerewood LINGUISTICS Diversity of Language Voyages American Pagans Indians
Edward Brerewood was a 16th-century English known for his famous book 'Enquiries Touching the Diversity of Languages and Religion'. This book was one of the most important and influential books on the origin of language and linguistics. This work; however, was not without controversy. Brerewood theorized that Native Americans were decedents of Russian Turks; a notion that was not well-received by all linguists.

According to Bell,
"Besides presenting the religions of the world and the areas dominated by them, Brerewood discusses the size and populations of little-known regions and even speculates on the size of the Great Southern Continent."
This work also features reports on the New World religious practices discovered by Spanish and Portuguese explorers. (Alden). Brerewood identifies many of the worshipers encountered in South America as pagan idolaters and sought to determine where the majority of Christians lived in… Read More

Description:
1843 True 1st INDIAN Tribes Lang & Taylor Report on Cherokee Native Americans
John Lang and Samuel Taylor were 19th-century American explorers who are remembered for their time spent with Native American Indians. Wagner-Camp's notes on this expedition:
"Lang and Taylor were members of the Society of Friends who visited the Indians recently removed from east of the Mississippi to the trans-Mississippi regions. Their report was presented to the Yearly Meeting of the Friends of New England and New York before being published under the above title . They visited the Winnebagoes, Shawnees, Kickapoos, Delawares, Kansas, Osages, Cherokees, and Choctaws, between August and December 1842"
This report is unquestionably one of the best and most authentic accounts of first-hand observations of the Cherokee and other notable American Indian tribes.
Graff notes that this New York edition came before the Providence edition of the same year. A true first printing!

1790 1ed Hudson Bay MAP Quebec INDIANS Iroquois Tribe California Canada Trusler
'The Habitable World Described'
is an enormous, fascinating history of the known world, collected and edited by John Trusler. This work contains descriptions on countries and people groups from all over the world written to given English readers an understanding of unknown regions.
This 1790 volume contains descriptions of the customs and people of Sweden, Denmark, and Persia, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of this volume is the vast information on the North America – Canada and California. This section details the customs of the Iroquois people, the Hurons, Miemis, and Oswego (all of whom are referred to as 'savages' throughout). Note the early maps of America and Canada with views of Indian tribes included.
