London: Robert Havell. Very Good. 1836. First. Etching. Engraving with etching, aquatint and hand-coloring on J Whatman hand-made paper watermarked 1836. Unusually wide, untrimmed margins showing the pulls from the binder's signatures on the left margin and the original gilt to the top edge. "I have found this species of Jay breeding in the State of Maine, where many individuals belonging to it reside the whole year, and where in fact so many as fifteen or twenty may be seen in the course of a day by a diligent person anxious to procure them. In the winter, their numbers are constantly augmented by those which repair to that country from places farther north. They advance to the southward as far as the upper parts of the State of New York.... Now, to my eye, the Canada Jay is as elegant in its movements, whether perched or on wing, as any other of our Jays, although its apparel is certainly very homely. It is joyous and lively at all times, even when, pushed by extreme hunger, it… Read More

Description:
Paris: Meynial, 1925. First Edition. George Barbier. A complete and excellent set of the five annual issues illustrated with a total of sixty beautiful pochoir plates, complete with decorated pochoir title pages. 'Falbalas and Franfreluches' (Frippery and Finery: Fashion Diaries) represents a literary and artistic collaboration of unusual elegance and sophistication. French illustrator, George Barbier (1882 - 1932) spared no effort in the making of this beautiful collection, using the finest pigments and up to thirty stencils per print to create images of the highest quality reflecting fashionable themes of the day. The plates portray romance amidst exotic lands and ages past, including a native American idyll on the Missouri, a languid mistress cocooned in a hammock in the tropical Antilles, high baroque debauchery, and, of course, a myriad of lovers depicted in Paris at the height of the chic 1920s. Each annual includes twelve pages of fine writing by Barbier's contemporaries in the Parisian scene… Read More

Description:
Suite of 12 etchings (each, 190x141 mm, margins excluded), later applied onto the papers of a nineteenth-century album. The Scola d'Amore exhibits a small poem through images, or rather a 'ricercare' that exploits the development of an iconographic theme - the Education of Love - in all its most inventive implications. Read More

Description:
Russian ballet dancer (1890-1950) and choreographer, probably the most celebrated male dancer in the entire history of dance.
Original front cover of the magazine "L´Illustration", published in Paris on May 22nd, 1909, right after his debut in Paris at age of only 19!. Nijinsky caused quite an impression in the Parisian public, and this publication calls him "The French Vestris" (referring to famous French dancer Auguste Vestris (1760-1842)) on the front cover.
Boldly signed by Nijinsky in diagonal, in black ink, across the lower right corner and next to his image dancing in the ballet "Le Pavillion D´Armide" (Fokine, with music by Nikolai Tcherepin, world-premiered in St. Petersburg, 1907), presented in Paris for the first time in May 1909 by the Sergei Diaghilev company, with very young Nijinsky.
This is an exceedingly rare item from a crucial moment in young Nijinsky´s career, now starting outside Russia, on tour.
Autographed front cover is 11 x 15.25 inches, in excellent condition.
